Mobilising for Action

Mobilising for Action was a research theme of the
Biological Heritage National Science Challenge,
Ngā Rākau Taketake programme.

Mobilising for Action researched the human dimensions of ngahere / forest health in Aotearoa /
New Zealand and more specifically the people and communities affected by,
or at risk of being affected by kauri dieback and myrtle rust.

The research programme completed its work in June 2024 and this website shares the research and stories.
It also introduces the social science team who undertook the research to support, engage and empower
New Zealanders to protect the ngahere for future generations.

Nurture, grow, blossom

Our People

The research team drew from a wide pool of national and international researchers with experience in theoretical and applied social research using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and a diverse range of applied practitioners with experience in community projects and collaborations.

Our Research

The research focused on the human dimensions of ngahere/forest health. We sought to understand the meaning people attach to te taiao (the environment), ngahere (forest), and taonga (treasured) species, to explore people’s connection and how this could be fostered and supported, to empower them to make a difference now and in the future so te taiao, ngahere, and taonga species flourish.
